Karla Guilfú Acevedo

Karla Inelisse Guilfú Acevedo was born on July 19, 1998, and was raised between the coasts and mountains of Patillas, Puerto Rico. During her adolescence and young adulthood, she stood out as a student-athlete. Her skills in the sport of volleyball led her to play for the Professional League in Puerto Rico and to earn an athletic scholarship that allowed her to pursue her bachelor's and graduate studies.

Her curiosity about human behavior and well-being led her to graduate with honors with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Ana G. Méndez University, Gurabo Campus, and to become certified as a Yoga Instructor. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Counseling Psychology at the same university. Additionally, she is the founder of the project "Comencemos a Sanar" ("Let's begin to Heal"), whose goal is to impact the mental health of Puerto Ricans through healing and educational activities, the promotion of social justice, and community work.

Her diverse interests include hiking, the arts, gastronomy, travel, sports, and learning in areas ranging from philosophy, history, and spirituality to science and personal growth.

In 2018, she had the opportunity to compete in a beauty pageant for the first time. She represented her town of Patillas in "Miss Teen World PR," achieving the title of "Miss Teen Mundial Puerto Rico 2018." To her surprise, the experience in this pageant ignited a desire to represent her homeland in prestigious beauty platforms such as Miss Supranational and Miss Universe. In 2021, she achieved second place in the Miss Supranational competition and won the Miss Elegance competition in that pageant. In 2023, she reached the Top 5 in Miss Universe and was recognized with the "Voice For Change" award, an initiative that highlights the social and community work of the delegates.

In her professional experience, Karla worked as a Crisis Manager for the ASSMCA Linea PAS, which is the Mental Health emergency line in Puerto Rico, allowing her to provide emotional and psychological support to individuals and guidance on mental health services in the archipelago. Currently, she focuses on her work as a communicator and presenter, having had the opportunity to host the television segment titled "Comencemos a Sanar" on the program "Viva La Tarde" on WAPA Television, which addressed mental health topics and services in Puerto Rico. She also had the opportunity to host the podcast "Voces de Reinas" in Season 7 and to be Co-Host of the Preliminary Night of Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2024.

In January 2024, she decided to start training in the art of acting at the Fragoso Performing Arts Studio, run by the renowned actress and professor Norwill Fragoso in Puerto Rico. She continues to develop in this field with the purpose of connecting with her artistic and creative side, which has been present since her childhood.

Karla Guilfú Acevedo is a young woman with a clear purpose: to educate, inspire, and make a positive impact on the lives of those around her, especially in the field of mental health and emotional well-being.

Her current goal is to continue expanding the impact of her organization "Comencemos a Sanar" to various communities in Puerto Rico. She also wishes to continue exploring the entertainment and communications industry, both inside and outside the archipelago. As a mental health professional and entrepreneur, her goal is to offer experiences, activities, and products that align with her values and life mission. Through this website, she seeks to connect in new ways with her community and invite them to follow every step of this adventure we call life.

We impact organized groups and communities of children, adolescents, adults and older adults in order to create individuals who take ownership of their well-being.

Vision

Create a society where the well-being and mental health of the human being is prioritized, considering each person as a biopsychosocial-spiritual being.

TV Segments

The opportunity to work with the Viva la Tarde group has amplified efforts. Through these segments we aim to educate a broader audience on mental health topics.
